Every year for the past few years I have picked a "word of the year". I've found it really helpful in keeping me focused and headed in the right direction. When I've had difficult decisions to make, my word has been surprisingly helpful in guiding me.
In 2013 my word was THRIVE. In 2014 it was SUSTAIN. I started out the year with way too much going on and gradually over the year made shifts small and large so that my life would be more manageable - and sustainable.
I had to say no to a lot of things, which is very hard for me, but what it meant was that I had a transformative year, and it wasn't just me, but a team effort with my husband, supporting friends and family, and even the kids! Our family had a year that I am truly so grateful for and I am excited about the year ahead.
My word for 2015 is EASE. I still have a lot going on and in order for me to be at my best, I need a little more ease in my life - "guerrilla" self-care, better planning, realistic goal setting, thoughtful and intentional daily habits, all resulting in some space to play, have fun, try out new ideas, experiment. Ease doesn't mean easy, in fact to me it means being rigorous so that I'm not maxed out. And it means being able to be more present and able to more fully experience the precious fleeting moments of my children's lives.
Of course, as always, it's a work in progress, but I am learning more and more to enjoy the journey and worry less about the destination. Thank you for joining me!
